Rod Builder Resources

Resources for Bamboo Rod Builders

Mr. Zhu has been building bamboo fly rods since 1996. Here are the essential reference materials we use and recommend for rod builders working with our blanks and components.

Guide Placement

Proper guide spacing is critical to a rod's performance and feel. Our guide spacing reference covers standard spacing ratios for common rod lengths and line weights.

Choosing a Blank

We carry classic American tapers — Payne, Young, Garrison, and others — hand-planed from Tonkin cane. Each taper has a distinct character suited to different fishing styles.

Component Matching Guide

  • Reel Seats: Match seat length and bore diameter to your blank butt section. We offer both anodized aluminum and hardwood seats in standard fly rod dimensions.
  • Ferrules: Our nickel silver ferrules are precision-cut. Match ferrule size to your blank's station dimensions.
  • Stripping Guides: Agate stripping guides reduce line wear and add a classic look. We carry 10 mm frames in multiple stone colors.
  • Cork: We stock AAA and super-grade cork rings for handle construction.
