This is a great rod rod and it is basically a cannon
Yes it's a 9 1/2 foot 9 weight and it should throw a line but it really works well
I have a lot of rods in this one as quickly become my favourite!
Now finding a reel for it's always going to be a challenge with bamboo rods but I just took a large Arbor reel and I put about I don't know 1/2 a spool of 36 pound lead core and I and it balances a whole lot nicer.
I don't have a lot of backing on this thing and if I get into a big fish and it gets in the lead core I might be in some trouble
I took the rod out pretty well the same week that I got it and it performed magnificently.

Love this rod! It’s a fine rod without the high cost of a custom bamboo rod. I’ve used it in small to medium sized streams and it handled a 13” rainbow just fine.
It allowed me to fish bamboo without breaking the bank

I ordered this rod that came yesterday. Spent the morning on my local pond casting poppers for bass, and this fly rod was very impressive. It easily performed as well as my name-brand rods...

So far rod has done well, have gotten some decent fish on it.

This rod is very sensitive, perform well for nymphing and for dry fly. It's probably going to be my favorite rod for trout fishing.

This review is for the 5wt model.
I own quite a few fly rods - Phillips, Montague, Redington, G. Loomis, etc. The caveat here is that over forty years of fly fishing I've used a bunch of stiff, non-compliant sticks as we as a few excellent rods. First off, I prefer bamboo over graphite or glass. I also like a midium action rod. Finally, I've moved from the more robust 6 and 7 weight sticks over the years to 4 and 5, and ultimately prefer a 5 weight. The action is moderately slow, so if you're used to throwing fast action it's going to take a few casts to get used to the more leisurely action of bamboo rod. No worries, though: it's worth the patience. Fishing for panfish on a 5wt is loads of fun; hook a bass and let it run for a while, don't muscle it in. Spooky trout? No worries. I find a DT5 line with a nine foot leader/tippet and a small dry fly will present on still waters or running very gently. This is my favorite fly rod.

This is a nicely made rod at an excellent price point. I've been in the market for an original Smuggler for a while now and am delighted to have found this Zhusrod's interpretation of one at a very reasonable price. The time between ordering and delivery was much shorter than expected and the rod itself was exactly as described. Thank you so much for providing a fine fishing instrument at an affordable price!

took it out for some shad fishing on the american river were i live,caught 8 shad most above 3-4 pounds,and if you dont know about american shad..they are very hard fighters..i even did not use my 9 foot 6 weight flyrod i brought with me,that day..this is becoming my ' go to 'shad fly rod now

Quick service for the distance it had to travel. Rod looks and feels great, but a true test will be this spring on a small mountain stream.

Very satisfied with.the rod this far. The finish of the cane , the wrapping and the ferrules is just nice. Can’t wait till spring comes when it’s time to try it on water. For the price this rod is hard to beat!
