How We Build Bamboo Fly Rods

From the first specification to the final check, the work follows the build.

01 / PREPARATION

Begin with the specification and cane

The selected taper and build define the starting point for the bamboo work.

  1. Define the build

    The selected taper, length, line weight, section layout and tip configuration define the build.

  2. Select and prepare the cane

    Cane is selected and prepared for the specified rod or blank.

  3. Prepare the strips

    The bamboo strips are prepared for shaping to the selected taper.

02 / SHAPING & ASSEMBLY

Bring the section profile into shape

The prepared pieces follow the chosen profile through shaping, assembly and finishing.

  1. Establish the section profile

    The prepared strips are shaped to the section profile of the chosen taper.

  2. Assemble and align the blank

    The strips are assembled into rod sections and checked for alignment.

  3. Finish the blank

    Each blank receives the surface finish and preparation included in its listed configuration.

03 / COMPLETION & CHECKS

Finish the work the order includes

Ferrule work, final assembly and inspection follow the configuration of the selected rod or blank.

  1. When included

    Fit ferrules when included

    Ferrules are fitted when they are included in the selected rod or blank configuration.

  2. Finished rods only

    Complete the finished rod

    Finished rods continue through grip, reel seat, guide, wrap and finish work.

  3. Every order

    Inspect the listed configuration

    The completed rod or blank is checked against your order, including sections, tips and supplied components.
