When you buy an additional tip with your rod or blank and they are dispatched together in the same parcel, the added tip ships at no extra charge.

01 / RECORD THE TAPER

Measure the original tip every 5 inches

Start at the fine end and work toward the male ferrule. Record the bamboo width at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 inches and every further 5-inch station along your tip. Each 5-inch interval is 127 mm. Continue to the last accessible bamboo before the ferrule and record its exact distance from your starting point.

Show your starting point

For a bare blank, use the fine end of the bamboo as zero. If a fitted tip-top covers it, show the reference point you used in a photo. Leave the hardware in place and mark inaccessible readings as unavailable.

Include the complete tip length

Photograph the start and end of your length measurement. State whether the measurement includes the ferrule and tip-top. Keep the finish intact and tell us whether the section is varnished or unfinished.

02 / MEASURE THE BAMBOO

Place the caliper jaws across opposite flats

Use the external measuring jaws

  1. Clean the measuring faces and check zero before measuring.
  2. Position the caliper across the rod, with the measurement direction perpendicular to the rod axis.
  3. Gently close the two external jaws against two opposite flat surfaces at the same position along the section. Measure the full flat-to-flat width, not corner to corner.
  4. For a hexagonal tip, rotate the section and record all three pairs of opposing flats at each station.

Use light, consistent pressure and record the reading with its unit. Avoid guides and thread wraps. If they block a station, measure nearby exposed bamboo and note its actual distance from the starting point.

03 / CHECK THE FIT

Measure three outside diameters on the male ferrule

Measure the smooth male slide that inserts into the female ferrule. Accurate readings help us assess a smooth, secure fit. The nominal ferrule size alone does not confirm compatibility.

A — Near the shoulder

Measure on the straight slide just beyond the shoulder. Keep the measuring faces off the raised shoulder and its curved transition.

B — At the middle

Measure halfway along the smooth insertion slide, perpendicular to its length.

C — Near the insertion end

Measure on the straight surface before the rounded edge. Do not measure on the rounded edge or the slotted mounting end.

Use a micrometer for the ferrule

Zero the tool and record every displayed digit with mm or inches. A micrometer reading to 0.001 mm or 0.0001 inch is preferred; resolution alone does not establish accuracy. Repeat each reading, then rotate the ferrule 90 degrees and record the second orientation.

Also include the smooth slide length from shoulder to insertion end, close-up photos of the measuring position and reading, and whether the current fit is smooth, tight or loose. If you only have calipers, include the tool's resolution so we can assess whether more precise readings are needed. Final compatibility may still require fitting or checking against the mating section.

Single-tip questions

Can I buy just one tip?

Yes. You can request one complete tip section separately without buying a full rod. Tell us whether it is an extra tip, a replacement or a custom build.

Can you make a custom tip for my existing bamboo rod?

Yes, we accept custom tip requests. Send the rod details, original tip measurements and ferrule measurements so we can assess the build and fit before quoting.

What if the original tip is broken or missing?

Send the rod specifications, any original taper data, photographs and details of the ferrule parts you still have. An intact matching spare tip can provide measurements. Identify missing information instead of estimating it so we can review the next step.

Is shipping included?

A tip ordered alone has a separate shipping charge of approximately US$30–70, quoted by packed length. An additional tip purchased with a rod or blank has no extra shipping charge when dispatched together in the same parcel.
