Choose a fly rod tube for the sections you actually need to carry. Measure the longest section as it will be packed, including protruding ferrules or fitted hardware. Compare that measurement with the selected case’s usable internal length, then check the internal diameter and space needed for the rod bag.
Measure the packed rod
Two rods with the same assembled length can need different cases when their section counts or handle layouts differ. Start with the longest packed section. Allow for protective space at the ends and use the case’s internal measurements rather than its outside length.
Check diameter and capacity
A tube long enough for a rod is not automatically wide enough for its grip, fittings or packed bag. Check the opening and intended carrying arrangement. If you want to carry more than one rod, confirm the dimensions and protection required for both.
Will a four-section case fit a two-piece rod?
Not necessarily. Compare the actual section length and packed width with the case’s usable internal dimensions. A case advertised for a four-section rod should not be assumed to fit a two-piece bamboo rod.
Need help checking a fit?
Send us the rod model, longest packed section, widest point and number of rods you want to carry. Ask ZHUSROD about a case before ordering if a fit-critical measurement is missing. You can also compare the configurations in our bamboo fly rod collection.
