About Everett Garrison

Everett Garrison applied an engineer's stress analysis to bamboo-rod design and documented a repeatable system that still shapes modern rodmaking.

Documented design context

Garrison used six-strip Tonkin bamboo and stress-analysis formulas to develop controlled, repeatable tapers. He also arranged nodes so each node was surrounded by five uninterrupted sides, a cane-intensive construction choice documented by the American Museum of Fly Fishing.

Most Garrison designs should be understood through his progressive engineering system. The museum specifically notes that true parabolic examples were unusual in his output, so 'parabolic' is not an accurate label for the entire lineage.

Everett Garrison's numbered tapers are precise, progressive designs, and the models here are not interchangeable. ZHUSROD currently makes rods based on references such as the 202E, 204E, 209, 209E and 212E, which differ in length, line weight and section count.

Choose the Garrison model by length and line weight

Lower numbers such as 202E and 204E point to lighter, shorter trout work, while 209, 209E and 212E move toward longer rods, heavier lines and more reach. Compare each product's taper reference, length, line weight, sections and tip configuration instead of treating "Garrison fly rod" as a single choice.
