This meticulously crafted Payne 202 bamboo fly rod embodies E.C. Payne's legendary design philosophy. The 8ft 3pc configuration combines portability with performance, featuring a progressive 0.065"-0.3" taper optimized for 5wt lines. The reinforced mid-section (25-35" zone with 0.025" wall thickness) maintains casting stability in 10-15mph crosswinds, proving particularly effective in boulder-strewn freestone rivers and weed-edged lake margins.
Constructed from premium Tonkin bamboo aged 3+ years, the hex-split blank achieves exceptional durability without compromising sensitivity. Mirror-polished 18% nickel silver ferrules ensure smooth assembly through countless fishing trips. The water-based varnish preserves natural bamboo aesthetics while providing essential environmental protection.
Outfitted with dark agate guides and select hardwood reel seat as standard, this rod offers customization options including guide gemstone colors (amber/smoke quartz) and reel seat woods (walnut/rosewood) via official website consultation. Performs exceptionally with #5WF floating lines for 15-30ft precision casts, ideal for presenting nymph rigs or 3" streamers to wary trout in clear water conditions.
