Hiram Lewis Leonard and the Leonard shop

Hiram Leonard opened his rod shop in Bangor, Maine, in 1871. The museum’s early Leonard rod illustrates the six-strip construction associated with the shop’s influence. Leonard production continued across different periods, so a model name should be read with its dimensions, configuration and era.

Keep similarly named Leonard records distinct

The current ZHUSROD Post Fire reference is a three-piece configuration. The Tournament record included here is the eight-foot, three-piece, 3wt profile. A nine-foot rod or a different section count requires its own identified reference; do not substitute one on name alone. The 50 DF Tournament record is also distinct from the separate 50DF configuration.

Choose around the presentation

Compare the fly and line combination first, followed by usual casting distance, water size and wind. A short build can offer clearance while a longer one may offer reach. Read each profile’s practical notes and compare the complete rod rather than choosing only by reputation.
